Maureen O’Connor is a Dancer, Dance Educator, Performer, Choreographer, Percussionist, Musician, Integrative Nutrition Health Coach [IIN graduate 2024], Fiber artist and Collage artist.
Maureen started her dance training at the age of 4 with Tony Award winning choreographer/tap dancer/musician Henry LaTang while attending an adult tap class with her mother. Mo continued tap dancing and expanded her training at the Joffrey Ballet School (ballet), Broadway Dance Center (Tap-Theatre/RHYTHM style, Jazz, Hip-Hop) and was accepted to the Conservatory of Music, Division of Dance at Brooklyn College with Brooklyn Dance Theatre (modern dance) under the direction of Martha Graham prodigy June Lewis. Maureen also studied Ballroom, Latin, and Flamenco.
Maureen performed extensively locally and abroad with various independent dance companies: Foot and Fiddle Dance Company & Band [lead tap dancer, drummer], NY Tap Collective (founder), Tango NY [tango dancer/choreographer] - woman only tango piece: Triad Hembra.
Maureen also performed in TV/Rita Moreno [lead tango dancer], BBC film Roy Castle [tap dancer], Giant Stadium [Field Tapper], Annual Macy’s Tap-O-Mania [tap dancer/teacher], etc.
Maureen has enjoyed teaching in Brooklyn, NYC & Westchester, as a faculty member at, The Brooklyn Performing Arts Center/Brooklyn, Stepping Out Ballroom and Latin Dance Studios/NYC, and is currently an Adjunct Faculty member at the Masters School, Performing Arts Department where she presented dance works: Commuter Tap 2017, The Yellow Basket 2023 for the HS Dance Company performance seasons. Maureen ‘Miss Mo’ has been teaching dance and directing performances for the Village of Irvington Recreation Department and since 2009 and thoroughly enjoys working with students aged 3 - 87 and also teaches classes at the Village of Irvington, Senior Center.
Maureen has always loved the drums, inspired by her brother Sean, she studied drumset at Drummer’s Collective in NYC at the age of 12 and later intensively studied cuban folkloric drumming conga, timbale, percussion with renowned percussionist, NYU alumnist/faculty member Daniel Sadownick. Maureen has been a member of multi-media NYC based band MLUMBO since 1998 and enjoys playing in a local Irvington based rock band The NOW Stories.
Maureen has always had a passion for nutrition, supplements, health, alternative healing modalities, grounding, Yoga, and Ayurveda. Maureen enrolled in the IIN Integrative Nutrition Health Coach training intensive at Institute for Integrative Nutrition and graduated in September 2024. Working with people one on one to create a healthy care plan is one her favorite processes.
